Hot Blonde Gets Stuffed (or Fill Her Up as it is alternatively known) was the original Lightning Bug viral sensation, notching up over two million views and counting in under a year.

Background

Produced as a test commercial when Nestle were considering moving away from the classic 'Have a break, have a KitKat' slogan, which was considered so familiar that people no longer noticed the adverts. This UK produced viral ad for four finger KitKat with the provocative slogan 'Fill Her Up' represents a drastic departure from the humdrum image of the product and was not aired on TV.

Explanation

Filmed and acted in the style of cheesy US soft porn or The Lover's Guide, the camera opens on a softly lit, intimate domestic setting with a young couple stripped to their underwear sitting on a red and brown sheeted bed. The boyfriend makes a cheeky suggestion to his girlfriend who is tempted but somewhat hesitant. He pursues the issue and eventually talks her round with hilarious results.

In creating this clean but suggestive viral we sought to shock the viewer and gain their attention by removing KitKat from its traditional, safe coffee break at work image and transplanting it to a sexier, edgier setting. We targeted a younger demographic without alienating existing consumers by building on the strong public association between KitKat and fingers, and using subliminal techniques to link the bed, situation and product and embed them in the viewer's mind. Being a viral advert its success was dependent on positive viewer experience, so it was of utmost importance that the product was the star and central to the action without spoiling viewer enjoyment. We were determined that this should not be one of those brilliant, enjoyable pieces of filmmaking that everyone remembers but can not associate with a brand, therefore the commercial is structured in a such manner that the product forms the punch line to the joke and is inseparable from the ad itself. Interestingly, feedback suggests that the video influenced buying behaviour in viewers, with even consumers who do not normally purchase KitKat feeling compelled to buy it after watching this viral. This video has now been banned.
